Ash and I love this picture from our week because we have one almost identical to it from about six years ago. Almost identical, because six years ago, little McKenzie wasn't helping her papa make the secret batter. Six years ago, Ash and I were newly married, living in army housing, and Jeff was a new friend. Ash and Jeff worked together- both young lieutenants in the 1-501st. The picture I have from years ago is of Jeff working at our stove to fry the halibut. Ash and I have both said Jeff made THE best beer battered halibut we'd EVER had, but back then, he wouldn't share his recipe! He said he'd been sworn to secrecy by his platoon sergeant. BUT! Jeff just got home from Iraq a couple weeks ago (yeah!) and he and Janelle, his lovely wife, invited us over for dinner the other night. Jeff made his halibut! And he sent us home with the recipe! We had a beautiful evening with old friends-- and delicious halibut. It was fun to laugh and talk and just see Jeff home-- as a husband and papa. He was deployed for 14 months.
"Thank You, God, for bringing Jeff home. Thank You for making his family whole again. Thank You for blessing us with enduring friendships."
